In this precious oil painting the painter E. Ferrante is inspired by the works of the Dutch neutralized Italian painter Gaspar Adriaensz van Wittel, known as Casper, and known in Italy as Gaspare Vanvitelli. In particular it is a reinterpretation of the painting “View of the Tiber with Castel Sant’Angelo and San Pietro in the background” by Vanvitelli. Taken from the left bank of the river, the view has its focal point in Castel Sant’Angelo, the papal fortress enriched by ramparts overlooking the water. In the background of the panorama, the Vatican basilica with the papal palaces, while in the center the Sant’Angelo bridge, adorned with statues painted by Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
