Still life – Dutch School – Oil on canvas

The painting by Salvatore Marinelli is a still life of peaches, black and white grapes together with a pear, a melon and an ear, all with a dark baroque background and a simple table. Objects and light are studied intensely and are painted with wonderful tenderness with variety of fruits. Marinelli is inspired by one of the many works of Adriaen Coorte, Dutch painter of the golden age specialized in “table still lifes” with flowers and fruits illuminated from above, with the dark background typical of turn-of-the-century still lifes.
